As udev is loaded as part of the initrd/initramfs, it's not possible to strace the failure. Downgrading I still do not know *what* is actually failing. The error messages should be harmless (see patches/lookup_user_verbosity). Marco: are you using the stock Debian kernels? No, and I do not use an initramfs either.
